Germaine Never Gave Up on Himself

Updated: Oct 25

Germaine is a single parent, an artist, a teacher, and a person in long-term recovery from a substance use disorder (SUD).

Just over five years ago, Germaine's life was a whole lot different. “Life was just caving in on me from all areas – even from my mother, from my friends,” Germaine says. I just didn’t feel very wanted out there in the world. I didn’t have self-worth.”

All across Kentucky people like Germaine are faced with the stigma and shame our communities put on people with SUDs. But with the help of friendship, comfort, and support, Germaine was able to begin his recovery journey at @isaiahhousetreatment, where he now works today. “I put my heart and soul into recovery. I prayed a lot. I learned to find these friendships that I still stay in contact with today,” Germaine says. “Never give up on yourself.”
