Tabitha's First Steps Happened through a Syringe Service Program

Updated: Oct 25

Tabitha began visiting her local syringe service program (SSP) and the resources she received there kickstarted her recovery.

As a person in recovery from opioid use disorder (OUD) 15 months later, she remembers the way it felt to take those first steps. “The lady that runs the program made me feel human again. Instead of just 'somebody who uses,' I was a human being, I was an actual person. That was what led me on my journey of recovery.”

When we treat one another as people first, rather than focusing on our medical conditions, we can make a difference in the lives of people living with OUD. “I felt comfortable. I felt at home and at peace being there. It truly saved my life. Several people I know are now in recovery due to the program. Bringing this into Graves County has truly changed Graves County 100%.”
