Tommy is Proud of What He has Achieved

Updated: Oct 25

Tommy's story is like so many of ours.

"I'm just a small town kid. We were poor, but we were happy. My mom and dad tried their best." Tommy was born and raised in Winchester, where he went on to raise a family of his own – three kids, a marriage, a job, and a house.

Tommy's opioid use disorder developed in his 20s, and after a bad divorce, things became more challenging. Then, Tommy sought treatment for his OUD. With the help of therapy and medication, he started working a job he loves at Achieving Recovery Together. He went back to school to earn his GED, and now he's going to college.

Tommy's story reminds us that with the right support, our fellow Kentuckians can and do recover. "I never thought I'd have all this," Tommy says. "We've got to love people so they can love their self again."
